Easter Sunday

Easter Sunday was a beautiful day.  I decided to not take the camera with me today, and to just enjoy the day of riding without having the concern of finding nice places to shoot dictate where or how I rode.  From home I made my way to Bellevue to meet up with a friend.  From there we decided to ride in the Valley and it was determined I would just guide a fairly random route.
We started the excursion on Front St in Issaquah and taking that road all the way to Black Diamond.  Then just kept riding on through to Enumclaw and through the Muckleshoot to Auburn.  From there we just tooled around Lake Tapps, stopping to enjoy the sun for a bit in Bonney Lake at Lake Tapps and then over the hill through Milton and Fife before returning home.
This was a pretty random ride without a set destination or anything other than riding in mind.  And it was nice not to worry about the camera, though I did find a place I hope to return to, an old abandoned and boarded up gas station just north of Enumclaw.  I think that would be a good place to shoot our bikes in natural light.

I am really looking forward to the rides this year...

Starting off Cold

Lets get 2013 off to a good start.
Spring did get off to a great, but quite frozen, start. Here in the PNW it has stayed very cold, but that did not deter me on the first expected Saturday morning with more blue than grey in the skies.  The morning before Daylight Savings I decided to roll before dawn and try to get some pictures of the sun coming up over Mount Rainier.
Originally the plan was get some pictures from Green Valley, either from Auburn or Sumner.  I had seen a couple decent spots to set up for steady shots from WA-167 overpasses during my time commuting in the Valley.  So I grabbed my gear and mounted up for a frozen morning adventure.
I did not realize how foggy it would be on this morning, and when I got to the valley, I was second guessing my decision to get up early.  The valley was completely socked in, there was no way I was getting the shot I wanted that day.
Then I thought I might be able to get above the fog and thankfully I followed my gut.  While I did not give myself as much time before sunrise as I wanted for long exposure shots, I did find a rather peaceful spot at Dike 3 of Lake Tapps.  Well it was a nice place for pictures, but I had to leave the bike at the road and walk on the lake bed (Lake Tapps is partially drained every winter).  I am not certain if I was trespassing or not, but I was able to find a good spot just below a private pier...
